MoreĆ” the bull comes to visit.
Well after a laborious 2 1/2 hours we managed to load the bull we have hired into the trailer (one thing I've learnt...if they don't wanna you can't make em!!)
Here is some photos with him with our girls and I can tell you he's a happy boy!!!

Derestrict Quadzilla Buzz 2k 50cc quad bike
I've just recently bought my son a Quadzilla Buzz 2k 50cc quad bike and was quite disappointed just how slow it was.
After a little digging though I've sorted the problem.....
There are 3 restrictors on the quad
1) is a small thread on the thumb throttle which is the obvious one but even if you completely loosen it off the throttle still only depresses 50% of the way!!! That brings us to restrictor 2.
2) Is located in the carb (this is a bit of a fiddle. I twisted the carb round and managed to get a small screwdriver onto the 2 top screws) If you unscrew the throttle off of the top of the carb and pull it out you'll see on the spring attached to the end a 15mm thick brass spacer like washer, this is preventing the throttle from fully opening so carefully take the spring off (photograph it first so you remember how it goes back together) remove the brass washer and reattach the spring, now put back the throttle cable.
Now that will make a bit of a difference but the quad still won't fly!!!!! Here's for restrictor number 3 that will turn your Buzz 50 into a little rocket !!!!
3) Is located in the exhaust.
Unbolt the exhaust (2 x 10mm nuts) off of the engine and you'll see in the exhaust where it joins the block a washer reducer that is reducing the bore of the exhaust. Stick a Philips screwdriver down the hole and gently pry the washer out. You'll notice it has a kind of top hat on the washer and all you need to do is put this in your vice and drill out the washer to the same size approx as the hole size hole going into the engine (I used a 20mm HSS drill. Now put it back together, start the quad and HOLD ON TO YOUR PANTS!!!!!!!!! And don't forget if you want to slow it down you can still do that on the throttle restrictor.
PLEASE MAKE A COMMENT ON THIS POST IF IT HELPS YOU SO I KNOW IF ANYONE USES IT
THANKS

Haylage cutting begins......
The contractors (whitehead farms) have started cutting our fields for haylage.
I love this time of year (making food for the animals and storing it up ready for winter)
I tell you in the mid of winter there is nothing like the smell of opening a bale of haylage up. It smells like a mixture of cider and summer all mixed into one.
My mother in law says it smells so good she's tempted to eat it!!!!
Happy Days!!!

Let the lambing commence !!!!!
This is a fun time of year for us and our children a time when new life joins the farm. It's come right on time as one of the Donkeys died just two days ago so we need some positive results.
Our first yew to start lambing had twins but one managed to escape the pen in the early hours and get out of the barn and the temperature here at night is below freezing. Sadly we found the little fella dead the next morning in the yard :0( (not a great start). The mother had also stopped nursing the other lamb maybe out of concern for the missing one, when I got to him he was freezing and near death so we had to get him in front of the fire. With no colostrum in him it was hit or miss, we mixed some up and after warming him for an hour got him to feed. Well that was yesterday.. This morning he's still alive but I think the whole ordeal knocked the wind out of him.
11:30pm- Our second yew goes into labour and within about 5minutes delivers her first and then 30 mins late her second.
Being so cold we have put a quartz heater in the barn (hence the red glow!!)
We've used our kids video baby monitor to keep an eye on them and I've taken a fond liking to my wives ear muffs!!!! (It's really cold!)

TB test day 1
Monday 12th Feb 2013:
The vet paid us a visit today to carry out the first part of our TB test on our Dexters. Even though cases of TB in this area are very rare there is still the what if. (Keep positive)!!
The down side is we have to wait till his return visit on Thursday for the him to check any lumps till we get the all clear.
Another thing to all you sheep and cattle owners, are you up to date on your clostridial diseases vaccine? We'd never even heard of this before recently and have now vaccinated all our sheep and cows. Speak to your vet if you need to know more.

They love their new hay feeder!!
A fantastic new purchase from IAE. A yearling round bale hay feeder. Ideal for dexters because of their small size the normal size feeders are a little large in diameter.
